Igor Grosu in Riga: "Latvia's experience will help us become more connected with Europe"
The next steps that the Republic of Moldova must take on its European path, after the European Council decided to open the accession negotiations in December 2023, were discussed by the Speaker Igor Grosu and the head of the Riga Government, Evika Silina. The discussions also focused on the reforms implemented by the Republic of Moldova, in particular the full implementation of the recommendations formulated by the European Commission.
"I reiterated that we are determined to advance on the European path, and Latvian support is important in the process of modernization, implementation of reforms and strengthening of institutions. I expressed my gratitude that Moldova remains a priority country for Latvia and that on January 23 they voted for the continuation of projects in our country in various fields, including economic development and education. We are also confident that with the launch of the Chisinau-Riga flight in May, bilateral relations will also develop in areas such as tourism, HoReCa", declared Igor Grosu.
In Riga, the Parliament Speaker had a meeting with the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs. The Moldovan official thanked the Latvian authorities for the support given to the Republic of Moldova in obtaining the status of a candidate country and the opening of EU accession negotiations.
"I was glad to see Edgars Rinkēvičs again, this time in the position of President of Latvia. I had good communication with Mr. Rinkēvičs when he was Latvian Foreign Minister. All this time, we were fully supported in our journey - obtaining the status of a candidate country and opening negotiations for Moldova's accession to the European Union. Latvia's experience will further help us to carry out those necessary reforms that will bring us even closer to the EU and become more connected with Europe", concluded the Speaker.
We remind you that the Parliament Speaker, Igor Grosu, is visiting Latvia on March 25-26.
