Searches in a corruption case involving lawyers, police and a former judge of the Supreme Court

CNA officers carry out 19 searches in a criminal case initiated for active corruption and influence peddling. According to a CNA statement, lawyers, policemen and a former judge of the Supreme Court of Justice are targeted in the corruption scheme.

Searches are carried out at the homes, offices and means of transport of the persons involved. The quoted source states that the persons concerned would have accepted and received money in particularly large proportions from interested parties, intended to influence the judges of the Chisinau District Court and the Chisinau Court of Appeal, for the pronouncement of judgments or decisions favorable to the interested parties.

At the moment, one lawyer has been detained for a period of 72 hours, and the criminal investigation continues with regard to the other persons.
