The Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe is coming to Chisinau

The Deputy General Secretary of the Council of Europe, Bjørn Berge, will visit the Republic of Moldova on April 8-9. The official will discuss with the Minister of Justice, Veronica Mihailov-Moraru, but also with other officials from Chisinau, about the quality of medical services for detainees, as well as issues regarding gender equality and violence against women.

During the visit, there will be a handover ceremony of a batch of equipment, devices and medical furniture to the Pruncul Penitentiary. It is for the second time that the Council of Europe donates such high-performing batches in order to cover the urgent needs of sanitary units in prisons, so that they meet the standards established by the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.

Also, Bjorn Berge will meet with the president of the Audiovisual Council, Liliana Vițu, to deepen the cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the Council of Europe in the audiovisual field.
