Moldova's CIS Ties Impact Agriculture Exports
The Republic of Moldova has not denounced any agreements signed on the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) platform in the field of agriculture, stated Minister of Agriculture Vladimir Bolea during a broadcast on Jurnal TV.
"The Ministry of Agriculture oversees 24 agreements. These agreements primarily concern the recognition of phytosanitary and veterinary certificates. We have an understanding with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to sign bilateral agreements with each of these states, as we currently export about 50 percent of our grape, apple, and bulk wine production to the CIS market. Abruptly ending these agreements would halt the economic activity of thousands of businesses," the minister explained.
In this context, Vladimir Bolea also addressed the situation in Ukraine.
"Even Ukraine, which was attacked and is at war, has not yet withdrawn from these agreements. They have a substantial number of bilateral agreements to sign in order to finalise the process. Transitioning from centrally signed acts to bilateral agreements is a very lengthy process," the minister added.
Government spokesperson Daniel Voda previously stated that the Republic of Moldova had signed 282 agreements within the CIS framework. Of these, the government is considering the denunciation of 79, has already begun procedures for 120, and has completed the process for 36.
