Bulgaria to Hold Simultaneous Elections on June 9: President Radev's Decree
President Rumen Radev of Bulgaria declared on Friday that the authorities in Sofia are set to orchestrate both the early legislative elections and the European elections concurrently on June 9, as reported by EFE and BTA, as cited by Agerpres.
This announcement follows the presentation of a list of potential cabinet ministers by interim Prime Minister Dimităr Glavcev, appointed on March 30, who are tasked with steering the nation until the establishment of a new government.
Radev affirmed that on Tuesday, April 9, he will issue three decrees: one for the interim government, another for the European elections, and a third for the early national legislative elections. He expressed optimism that this strategy will bolster voter turnout and facilitate resource savings for the state.
Glavcev, a six-term deputy for the conservative GERB party and former President of the Parliament in 2017, assumes his new temporary role subsequent to his tenure as President of the Court of Accounts.
The decision to call for elections ensues the collapse of the third and final endeavour to form a government.
The prevailing instability fosters increased backing for pro-Russian populist factions critical of the European Union, as noted by EFE.
