Record Year for Moldovan Wine & Grape Exports

The volume of Moldovan wine exports to foreign markets experienced an 18% increase in 2023 compared to 2022.

This growth equates to a total of 123 million litres exported, with a value of 192 million US dollars. According to data from the National Office for Vine and Wine (ONVV), the primary export markets were Romania, Poland, the Czech Republic, the USA, and China.

"At the industry level, over 80% of total still wine production is intended for export. The fierce international competition necessitates careful attention to our promotional strategy. Therefore, we intend to analyse global wine market trends and the strategies of emerging winemaking nations. Additionally, we will evaluate the success of Moldovan Wine, a decade after its international launch," said Ștefan Iamandi, director of ONVV.

In recent years, Moldovan wines have also reached new and exotic destinations such as Australia, the United Arab Emirates, Bolivia, Congo, Benin, Burundi, Malaysia, and the Dominican Republic. Last week, the Wine of Moldova Association was launched in Japan, dedicated to promoting Moldovan wines on the Japanese market. Notably, the price in Japan is almost double that offered in the EU. Internationally renowned experts are assisting Moldovan producers to promote their wines as effectively as possible.

Last year, table grape exports also reached a new record for the Republic of Moldova, totaling 66.3 million US dollars. This represents a 55% increase compared to the previous year.
