Expanding Horizons: Moldovan Wine Finds Markets Worldwide
In the year 2023, there was a notable surge in wine exports, with a discernible increase of 18% in volume and 24% in value compared to the previous year, signifying heightened international demand and a commendable acknowledgment of the quality of Moldovan wines.
According to reports from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, Europe persisted as the primary market for Moldovan wines, witnessing a substantial 36% rise in value.
This significant uptick in Moldovan wine exports extended its reach to the United States as well, with an impressive 84% escalation in value. In 2023, Moldovan wine exports to foreign markets amassed a volumetric total of 123 million litres, amounting to a total value of $192 million USD. Notably, the primary export destinations, as per data from the National Office for Vine and Wine (NOVW), included Romania, Poland, the Czech Republic, the USA, and China.
Furthermore, Moldova's wine production has ventured into novel and exotic territories in recent years, encompassing destinations such as Australia, the United Arab Emirates, Bolivia, Congo, Benin, Burundi, Malaysia, and the Dominican Republic. Additionally, the launch of the Wine of Moldova Association in Japan, aimed at bolstering the presence of Moldovan wines in the Japanese market, took place in early April.
The price differentials between Moldovan wines and those in the EU are striking, almost doubling in comparison. To enhance market penetration, Moldovan producers receive valuable support from internationally renowned experts to promote their wines effectively.
Moreover, the Ministry announced the successful creation of a superior quality wine last year, meticulously guided by artificial intelligence technology throughout all production phases, including harvesting, fermentation, processing, blending, label design, and communication.
Consequently, the project has garnered international acclaim, underscoring the country's capacity for innovation in the wine industry through the integration of advanced technologies.
