EU has allocated 2 million euros for the reform of the key institutions that regulate the labor market in the Republic of Moldova

The European Union has allocated 2 million euros for the reform of the key institutions that regulate the labor market in the Republic of Moldova. The project lasts two years and will contribute to improving access to better employment opportunities in the Republic of Moldova. According to the Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Alexei Buzu, our country has proved a strong commitment to promoting equality and social rights, protecting employees and encouraging job creation.

Decent work, combating undeclared work and promoting the growth of employment are essential priorities for the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, said the responsible minister, Alexei Buzu, at the press conference held together with the European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights and the Director General of the International Labor Organization.

"This visit honors us. It is a clear sign of support for the reforms that the Government and the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection are implementing. We had a fairly busy agenda, a fairly productive meeting, in which we exchanged opinions about the difficulties faced by the Republic of Moldova in the field of labor and social protection, about the reforms we are implementing and how we can boost our collaboration, both in terms of European integration, as well as our collaboration with our partners from the International Labor Organization", said the minister.

The Director General of the International Labor Organization (ILO), Gilbert Houngbo, stated that the Republic of Moldova has taken several visible steps in terms of improving the labor market.

"A key element that I want to highlight is the importance of continuing social dialogue, bringing together all social partners and overcoming these critical challenges we face, trying to find solutions. We discussed the importance of finding a balance between the economic and the social side".

At the same time, the European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights, Nicolas Schmit, pointed out that labor protection is a global concern and for which various support projects are being implemented.

"We, together with the general director of the IOM, initiated a series of reforms with the Government of the Republic of Moldova. Two very important reforms concern social services, such as the Labor Inspectorate, which concerns decent work, protecting employees, but also helping companies improve their working conditions. Because you are in a situation where you have a labor shortage. So if there is a labor shortage, we have to make sure that the working conditions are good."

The "EU support for a more inclusive labor market in the Republic of Moldova" project directly targets three beneficiaries: the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, the National Employment Agency and the State Labor Inspectorate. It focuses on some key objectives, such as better performance of the relevant Ministry and the Agency in preventing and addressing labor market exclusion. Also, it is desired to improve working conditions and protect workers' rights, by strengthening the capacity of the State Labor Inspectorate to fulfill its mandate of state control, modernizing procedures and the information system, but also improving the staff training system.
