Water and sewerage tariffs in the municipality of Chisinau could be increased by ANRE

The National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) will decide, in Wednesday's meeting, what will be the tariffs for water and sewage in the municipality of Chisinau.

According to the draft decision published by ANRE, the price for domestic consumers will reach 11.12 lei for a cubic metre. Rates for sewerage and wastewater treatment services are also increasing. Household consumers will pay 4.18 lei per cubic metre, as stated by the document.

Radio Moldova recalls that Apa Canal Chisinau requested a tariff increase, arguing that electricity has become more expensive, and threatened that it could stop its activity, due to debts to Premier Energy. Thus, Apa-Canal requested a tariff of 13.26 lei for water and 5.94 lei for sewage.

Currently, the residents of the capital pay 8.65 lei for water services, and 2.04 lei for sewage.

At the end of November 2022, the Chisinau Municipal Council approved higher provisional tariffs for the public water supply service. For domestic consumers, the average tariff calculated for the public drinking water supply service was set at 16.32 lei for one cubic metre, and for the sewage service – 6.62 lei. Respectively, in total – 22.94 lei.

For non-household consumers, the tariff of 16.32 lei for water and 10.26 lei for sewage was approved. In total – 26.58 lei, to which VAT is added.

ANRE qualified the decision of the Municipal Council as illegal, because it was taken without the institution's opinion. ANRE specified that the legislation in force does not provide for the possibility of approving provisional tariffs.

Currently, the highest tariff for water and sewage is paid in Glodeni, respectively 27.68 lei for water and 27.74 lei for sewage.
