Head of Romanian diplomacy welcomes our country's participation in the NATO ministerial meeting. Nicu Popescu: "The Republic of Moldova needs the help of friends"
The Republic of Moldova participates for the first time in a meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs from the member states of the North Atlantic Alliance, which is held in Bucharest. This represents a "welcome first", emphasized the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Bogdan Aurescu. For his part, the head of diplomacy from Chisinau, Nicu Popescu said that he is in Bucharest to make the Republic of Moldova stronger, more present and more visible in the international arena.

The Western Balkans and the Black Sea region are important for the security of the Alliance. Also, NATO reaffirms its commitment to strengthen support for the Republic of Moldova, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, in order to support the integrity, resilience, capabilities and political independence of these states - mentioned the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Bogdan Aurescu, referring to the Declaration of NATO Foreign Ministers, adopted yesterday in Bucharest. "The second session for Romania is the most important, because we have our partners with us, the partners from the Western Balkans, from the Black Sea area, Georgia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Republic of Moldova. It is for the first time that the Republic of Moldova participates in a ministerial meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the NATO Alliance and it is a welcome premiere", said Bogdan Aurescu. The citizens of the Republic of Moldova live in a region severely affected by the brutal war started by the Russian Federation in Ukraine. The effects are felt both from an economic and security viewpoints, said Nicu Popescu. "This war creates problems for everyone, from Europe and the world, but the biggest problems are felt by the Republic of Moldova, because it is in the immediate vicinity of Ukraine. In this context, the Republic of Moldova needs the help of friends, the establishment of partnerships to increase resilience, which is why, several countries, several organizations are with us, supporting us in maintaining freedom, democracy and territorial integrity, namely the countries of NATO and the European Union. Even if the country's Constitution specifies the status of neutrality, this does not mean safety, demilitarization, nor indifference to what is happening around us. Thus, we condemn Russia's aggression towards Ukraine", said Nicu Popescu. The head of diplomacy from Chisinau, Nicu Popescu, is participating with his counterparts from Georgia and Bosnia and Herzegovina in a special session on the Alliance's aid to these three countries. On the sidelines of the meeting, Nicu Popescu discussed with the interim president of the Romanian Senate, Alina Gorghiu, about ensuring the energy security of the Republic of Moldova against the backdrop of Russia's war against Ukraine, the need to boost the implementation of joint infrastructure projects, but also ways to strengthen bilateral dialogue.
