PACE President calls on all European countries to triple their efforts "to enable Ukraine to repel the invader"

Ukraine needs external support and not just words, said the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Theodoros Rousopoulos. According to the official, the war-torn country needs ammunition, which will allow it to defend the most fundamental right of all, provided for in the European Convention on Human Rights - "people's right to life".

In this context, the European official stated that any hesitation in this regard involves high costs.

"We must not hesitate, at this critical moment, to support Ukraine. We call on all European countries to double and triple their efforts to enable Ukraine to repel the invader, regain control of its illegally occupied territories and restore peace based on justice throughout its territory,” he added.

The agenda of the spring session of PACE also includes the subject of support for the reconstruction of Ukraine, and one of the proposals for this purpose is to use the goods of the Russian state, frozen in the member states of the Council of Europe. The President of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, will give a speech at tomorrow's session.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) started today in Strasbourg. It is attended by a Delegation from Chisinau, as well as the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mihai Popșoi, who will also give a speech today. Meanwhile, the head of Moldovan diplomacy had a meeting with the president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Theodoros Rousopoulos. During the discussion, the officials talked about the internal political developments in the Republic of Moldova, the dynamics of the regional situation, as well as the efforts to strengthen democratic institutions in our country.

"In this context, I reiterated the desire of the Republic of Moldova to move to the post-monitoring stage, expressing the commitment of the authorities to advance firmly in the reform process, the consolidation of democratic institutions and the rule of law in the Republic of Moldova", Mihai Popșoi emphasized.

On the sidelines of the spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the minister of foreign affairs also had a meeting with the president of the Venice Commission, Claire Bazy – Malaurie. The national efforts in the context of the effective evaluation of judges and prosecutors, the achievements of the last period and the challenges that are encountered in this process were highlighted.

"Claire Bazy - Malaurie highlighted the importance of an effective dialogue and constructive cooperation between all the actors involved in order to identify the best solutions in building democratic institutions and an independent and efficient justice, reiterating the willingness of the Venice Commission to further grant the necessary assistance in the context of the reform processes and the European path of the Republic of Moldova", said the Moldovan official.
