Titus Corlățean: 2023, a decisive year for the Republic of Moldova, in the context of the accession to the EU

The year 2023 is a decisive year in the context of the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union, according to the chairman of the Foreign Policy Commission in the Romanian Senate, Titus Corlățean. According to him, our country will have to meet the conditions set by the EU once it is granted the status of a candidate country for EU accession. The Romanian official claims that all reforms are important and they cannot be prioritised.

"There are many chapters that are being negotiated and without prioritising, they are all important. It takes some time. It is important to have good quality people, good expertise in institutions, to have political will, because the Republic of Moldova will have to adopt good quality laws in the Parliament. I said it too, others said it too - Romania was always at the disposal of the Republic of Moldova, when we had partners in Chisinau, it was not the case every time, to adopt legislation that would help the Republic of Moldova", the president of the Foreign Political Commission in the Romanian Senate, Titus Corlățean, told Radio Moldova.

Radio Moldova recalls that today the president of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, convened the meeting of the National Commission for European Integration. The totals of the progress achieved, in 2022, in the implementation of the Action Plan for fulfilling the conditions submitted to the Republic of Moldova, in the context of granting the status of a candidate country to the EU, will be made. European integration priorities for this year will also be discussed.

It should be mentioned that in order to start the negotiations for EU accession, the Republic of Moldova must fulfil nine conditions formulated in the opinion of the European Commission and approved by the European Council together with the granting, on June 23, 2022, of the status of a candidate country for EU accession.
