European Commissioner Johannes Hahn will give a speech in PMAN on May 9

On Europe Day, on May 9, the European Commissioner for Budget and Administration, Johannes Hahn, will pay a visit to Chisinau. According to the Delegation of the European Union in Chisinau, the European official will deliver a speech alongside the head of state Maia Sandu, at the inauguration of the European City in the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN).

The last time European Commissioner Johannes Hahn visited Chisinau was in September 2022. In January 2024, President Maia Sandu had a phone conversation with Johannes Hahn.

This year, Europe Day has the theme "Freedom, Peace, Prosperity - Europe is you!". The traditional European City will be inaugurated in Chisinau on May 9 and in Balti on May 19. Activities dedicated to Europe Day will take place throughout May. 30 projects financed by the EU, which provide assistance in various fields, such as rural, economic, social development, will provide visitors to the European City of Chisinau with information about the activities carried out, about who are or can become concrete beneficiaries of this assistance.

Also, representatives of 18 member states of the European Union will share their cultural and culinary traditions on the "Europe Team" Alley, where various competitions and foreign language lessons will be held.

During the day, interactive and educational activities for children of all ages will be organized in the European City, throughout the day, such as: face painting; society games; drawing contests; sport activities; dance performances by children's creative clubs on the main stage.

The evening will end with a concert involving Cristi Aldea-Teodorovici, Lupii lui Calancea and the Kalush Orchestra from Ukraine, the winners of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.
