Latvia Boosts Ukraine's Defences with New Aid Package
Latvia approved a new military aid package for Ukraine, bolstering both its air defence and intelligence capabilities, Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina announced on April 30.
The move comes in response to Ukraine's request for increased air defence support following intensified Russian attacks on energy infrastructure since March.
The package includes anti-aircraft guns, tactical unmanned surveillance systems, and other essential technical materiel for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Silina said. Each shipment of aid confirms the strong relationship between Latvia and Ukraine and its fight against the Russian aggressor, the greatest threat to world peace and security, Silina added.
Latvia has been a staunch supporter of Ukraine since the outbreak of the full-scale war, allocating 0.25% of its GDP annually to provide military aid. Silina announced in early April that Riga's military aid to Kyiv had totaled 392 million euros.
Latvia also formed the international drone coalition for Ukraine in January, together with the United Kingdom, to bolster Ukraine's arsenal of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Latvia and Ukraine are currently working together to increase joint drone production.
