UK expresses its support for our country. David Cameron: " We will always stand with Moldova and its people, defending their democratic choice to pursue a path of freedom, independence and sovereignty"

UK will support the Republic of Moldova and its people will always stand with Moldova and its people, defending their democratic choice to pursue a path of freedom, independence and sovereignty, said the Foreign Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, David Cameron, following the meeting with his counterpart Moldovan Mihai Popșoi, on a visit to London.

"We discussed the strengthening of Moldovan-British bilateral relations, with an emphasis on strengthening the capacities of national institutions, the reforms implemented by our country in the process of integration into the European Union, as well as aspects related to regional security", said Mihai Popșoi.

In London, the head of Moldovan diplomacy had meetings with several top officials. They had an exchange of views regarding the internal situation in the Republic of Moldova and regional security, said Minister Popșoi.

"We also discussed the impact of the war in Ukraine and the challenges facing the Republic of Moldova. I mentioned that our country is making efforts to strengthen resilience to hybrid threats to national security in order to maintain peace and stability in the country. Also, I emphasized that the Republic of Moldova will remain in solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian citizens". Also, the 3rd meeting of the Republic of Moldova - United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Strategic Dialogue was held in London. The event was hosted by the Minister for Europe, Nusrat Ghani and involved the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth and Development, Lord David Cameron and the Minister for the Armed Forces, Leo Docherty, informs the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Chisinau.

During the Dialogue, the parties addressed a wide range of topics regarding bilateral cooperation, which has intensified since Russia's attack on Ukraine.

"This includes a reinvigorated partnership in the field of security and defense, by strengthening the resilience of the Republic of Moldova to deal with threats such as vulnerabilities in the dimension of cyber security, as well as increased cooperation in the field of law enforcement and criminal justice, the exchange of information to combat serious organized crime and support for defense reform", according to the MAE.

It also involves Great Britain's support for political and economic reforms in the Republic of Moldova, especially in terms of energy security, fighting corruption, strengthening democracy, developing the private sector and independent media. Bilateral cooperation also includes a humanitarian program from the United Kingdom to ensure coverage of the basic needs of Ukrainian refugees and vulnerable people in the Republic of Moldova, although the MFA did not specify what this program consists of.

Also, the United Kingdom reiterated its support for the efforts of the Republic of Moldova to join the European Union.
