Drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians could lose their driving licence
Drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians could lose their driving licence and drivers who break the speed limit will be penalised more severely. In this regard, the Government has prepared a draft law which has already been voted in the first reading in the Parliament.
This was announced by the State Secretary at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Serghei Diaconu, during the Government meeting.
"We have taken over the European practice and, in particular, the Romanian practice, where it is stipulated that for failure to pass from the start, one is deprived of the right to drive for a period of time. We went for a slightly milder formula. So, if the person from the second time does not give way, his licence will be revoked for a period of up to 45 days", explained the secretary of state.
Serghei Diaconu stated that recently the number of accidents at pedestrian crossings has also increased. The official stated that the penalties for drivers who violate the speed limit will also be tightened, including up to the lifting of the driver's licence for a certain period with retraining. If the speed limit is exceeded by more than 70 km/h, the person will have to pass the training courses once more.
