State Visit Update: Maia Sandu's Oslo Trip Spotlights Cooperation and Security
The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, continues her state visit to Oslo today.
Throughout the day, she will engage in a series of meetings aimed at fostering bilateral cooperation and addressing pertinent issues, as reported by Anatol Caciuc.
In the morning, President Sandu is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, followed by joint press statements. The agenda includes discussions on Moldovan-Norwegian bilateral cooperation, focusing on the implications of the opening of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway in Chisinau and the implementation of the Free Trade Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the EFTA countries, including Norway.
Later in the day, President Sandu will participate in a roundtable discussion on energy at the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation. She will deliver a speech alongside Energy Ministers Terje Aasland and Victor Parlicov, addressing regional energy dynamics and cooperation opportunities.
Additionally, President Sandu will hold meetings at the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs and the University of Oslo. At these institutions, she will deliver a public address on the current situation in the Republic of Moldova and the broader region, particularly in the context of the conflict initiated by the Russian Federation in Ukraine. Her speech, titled "In the Shadow of War: Moldova and European Security," aims to highlight Moldova's perspective and the implications for regional stability.
The two-day state visit will conclude in the evening with an artistic cultural event at the Grand Hotel. The event will feature the inauguration of an exhibition by renowned painter Valeria Duca, along with a recital by virtuoso accordionist Radu Rățoi. Furthermore, Moldovan wines will be presented, and the occasion will be hosted by Ambassador Liliana Guțan, representing the Republic of Moldova to the Kingdom of Norway. President Sandu will be accompanied by Their Royal Highnesses, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit, adding regal presence to the gathering.
