Ukraine Foils FSB Assassination Plot Against Zelensky: SBU Reveals Russian Involvement
In Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has uncovered a network of FSB agents who were preparing to assassinate President Volodymyr Zelensky and certain military officials, as reported by the BBC.
"The counterintelligence service and investigators from the SBU foiled the plans of the FSB (the Russian security service) to assassinate the President of Ukraine and other senior military and political figures," stated the SBU in a press release.
According to the SBU, the network, led from Moscow, included two colonels from the State Guard Department who were transmitting secret information to Russia.
"In addition to Volodymyr Zelensky, the enemy planned to eliminate SBU President Vasiliy Maliuk, Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate Kirill Budanov, and other officials. For example, the assassination of the Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Kirill Budanov, was planned to take place before Easter," stated the SBU.
According to the Security Service of Ukraine, initially, the recruited agent was supposed to observe the movements of the protected individual and transmit information to the enemy. Subsequently, rocket strikes were to be launched on the building where the official was expected to be located. Then, they were to attack the remaining individuals in the building with a drone. "Following this, the Russians planned to launch another rocket, including to destroy the evidence of drone usage," informed the Security Service of Ukraine.
