Minister Affirms: Răducanu's Resignation Doesn't Hinder Vetting Process in Moldova
Moldovan Minister of Justice Veronica Mihailov-Moraru asserted during the Government session that the resignation of magistrate Tatiana Răducanu from both commissions responsible for evaluating judges and prosecutors does not impact the vetting process.
She abstained from addressing the letter issued by Veronica Dragalin, the Chief Prosecutor of the Anti Corruption Prosecution Office. Additionally, the Minister pledged to provide an official stance following deliberations at the Superior Council of Prosecutors.
"It is imperative to ascertain whether an official position has been conveyed by the Anti Corruption Prosecution Office, and if the authenticity of said notification and its disclosed details have been corroborated. Furthermore, this matter will be discussed at the Superior Council of Prosecutors, after which I will articulate an official standpoint. The ministry has not received such correspondence; my awareness of it, akin to yours, stems from media coverage. Importantly, this development does not impede the vetting process in any capacity. It is pertinent to reiterate that we operate three distinct committees tasked with extraordinary evaluations, all of which operate independently as collegial bodies. Therefore, decisions and evaluations are arrived at through collective deliberation. Moreover, Mrs. Răducanu's resignation from Commission 3, entrusted with assessing prosecutors, was evidently justified by her written statement. Furthermore, her recently announced resignation pertains to Commission 2, signifying the continuity of both Commissions 2 and 3, with the requisite quorum," elaborated Veronica Mihailov-Moraru.
Regarding recent events, it is noteworthy that a letter signed by Veronica Dragalin, the Chief of the Anti Corruption Prosecution Office, surfaced on Tuesday via a platform previously associated with Vlad Plahotniuc's image. The missive was directed to prosecutors, judges, and representatives of civil society who failed to pass the evaluation conducted by the Pre-Vetting Commission.
