Moldova Celebrates Europe Day, Eyes EU Membership

Peace and unity on the European continent were celebrated today in the Moldovan city of Balti.

The city organised a series of cultural and interactive activities for all ages in Vasile Alecsandri Square. Informative materials detailing regional development projects in northern Moldova, implemented with the support of the European Union, were available to the public.

Janis Mazeiks, the European Union Ambassador to Moldova, stated that the EU prioritises democracy, peace, respect for human rights, and most importantly, solidarity. Ambassador Mazeiks reiterated the EU's ongoing support for Moldova's accession process.

Moldovans will soon be asked to decide on their country's future. The vote will determine whether Moldova joins the European Union and enjoys the benefits of peace, prosperity, democratic standards, economic opportunities, increased trade, mobility, investment, and a higher standard of living as citizens of an EU member state.

Cristian-Leon Turcanu, the Romanian Ambassador to Moldova, who was also present at the event, said the people of Balti desire peace and prosperity in a just society that protects its citizens. He emphasised that this shared yearning for a secure and prosperous future, along with their common history and heritage, demonstrates Moldova's strong ties to Europe.

Europe Day celebrations in Balti concluded with a concert featuring several local performers.

According to the PCCOCS, they will be investigated while under house arrest and monitored with electronic bracelets. This court ruling, requested by prosecutors, follows the preventive arrest of nine others on Friday, who will be held for 20 and 30 days.
