Iranian President and Foreign Minister Die in Helicopter Crash
Several Iranian sources confirm that the country's president, Ebrahim Raisi, and foreign minister, Hosein Amir Abdollahian, have died following a helicopter accident, according to the BBC.
The deaths of Raisi and all others who were in the helicopter have been confirmed by the Iranian news agency Mehr and an Iranian official.
Pirhossein Kolivand, chief of the Iranian Red Crescent, declared on state television that rescuers have not found any sign of life at the accident site.
Among the passengers on the helicopter were Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi, foreign minister Hosein Amir Abdollahian, the governor of the Iranian province of East Azerbaijan, Malik Rahmeti, and Ayatollah Ali Hashim from the province of Tabriz.
The helicopter crashed on Sunday in a mountainous region in north-western Iran, near the borders with Azerbaijan and Turkey.
