Moldova Local Elections: First Round Results Announced
The Moldovan Central Election Commission (CEC) announced the preliminary results of local elections held yesterday in five localities across Moldova.
Mayors were elected in the first round in four of these localities: Sagaidac village (Cimișlia district), Hănăsenii Noi village (Leova district), Cotovscoe village, and Cairaclia village (both in UTA Gagauzia). However, the commune of Târnova (Dondușeni district) will require a second round of voting.
As a reminder, local elections, both new and partial, were held yesterday in nine localities throughout Moldova. Elections for new local council members were held in Cairaclia and Salcia (Taraclia district), Chioselia Rusă and Cotovscoe (both in UTA Gagauzia), while mayoral elections took place in Târnova commune (Dondușeni district), Bucovăț town (Strășeni district), Sagaidac village (Cimișlia district), and Hănăsenii Noi commune (Leova district).
According to the legal framework, a mayoral candidate is elected if they receive more than half of the valid votes cast by voters who participated in the election. If no candidate meets this requirement, a second round will be held within 2 weeks, featuring the top two candidates from the first round.
