Moldova Census: Participation Mandatory, Fines for Refusal
The National Bureau of Statistics (BNS) announced on May 19 that approximately 1.77 million people and 1.215 million dwellings have been enumerated in the ongoing national census.
Districts with the highest counts thus far include Soroca, Ungheni, and Anenii Noi. Conversely, Chișinău and Bălți municipalities currently have the lowest response rates.
Participation in the census, which runs from April 8 to July 7, is mandatory for all Moldovan citizens. Residents are required to provide their personal information to census officials. Refusal to answer the census questionnaire can result in fines of up to 2,500 lei.
