US Secretary of State Blinken May Visit Moldova Amid Crises
Officials from Chișinău and the USA are currently discussing a possible visit to the Republic of Moldova by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, according to official sources cited by G4Media.
This would be the second visit of the head of American diplomacy to Chișinău, following the one in March 2022. On the other hand, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Chișinău have told "Teleradio-Moldova" that they do not yet have information in this regard.
The arrangement of the visit depends on developments in the two major issues of the moment – the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the war between Israel and the terrorist organisation Hamas.
The Republic of Moldova has become a hotspot on the map of Europe since the onset of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Russia is attempting, through various political actors, to dismantle the pro-Western regime in Chișinău, notes the Romanian press.
Two years ago, Antony Blinken praised the help given by the Republic of Moldova to Ukrainian war refugees.
"The Republic of Moldova deserves the gratitude of the international community for the reception and safety it has offered to the refugees. The United States will do everything possible to help the Republic of Moldova (...) We support the European aspirations of the Republic of Moldova. We wish to support the Republic of Moldova in strengthening energy security. We do this both through financial support for the development of alternative sources and by bringing in technical experts. We will work very closely with the authorities in Chișinău to achieve energy independence," said the head of American diplomacy during his visit to Chișinău in March 2022.
Experts mentioned at that time that the visit is a sign of the support the USA offers the Republic of Moldova during a complicated period in the region.
