Moldova Seeks New Top Prosecutor After Results Cancelled

On Friday, the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) will convene to review applications from candidates who have registered for the prosecutor general competition.

This is the first item on the agenda.

Four individuals have applied for the position:

In late February, the CSP cancelled the results of the previous prosecutor general competition, which had been won by Octavian Iachimovschi, the deputy head of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office. This decision came after a CSP member, Olesea Vîrlan, lowered a candidate's score without providing justification and subsequently resigned.

The election of a new prosecutor general remains one of the European Union's conditions for opening accession negotiations with Moldova.
