Alexandru Musteață: The war in Ukraine changed the priorities of SIS

With the start of the war by the Russian Federation in Ukraine, the Intelligence and Security Service of the Republic of Moldova changed its priorities, stated the director of the institution, Alexandru Musteata, in an interview for the Security and Defense Initiatives Platform.

According to him, after February 24, there was a very high risk that the Russian army would reach the border of the Republic of Moldova, even take control of some regions of the country. Alexandru Musteata said that currently the main dangers for the Republic of Moldova are unconventional ones, such as energy or information. "We also see the latest movements in the Kherson region, then the focus shifted to non-conventional dangers, energy security. However, when you have only one supplier of gas, on which you depend, and electricity, there is a great vulnerability, especially when the production of electricity is under the management of an entity outside the area of constitutional control of the Chisinau Government. Also, there is the aspect of economic and financial security, we monitor very carefully what is happening in the financial-banking field, in order not to admit the materialization of risks that could lead to the collapse of the financial-banking system", explained Alexandru Musteata.
