Ministry Establishes Regional Council Amid Controversy: Bașcan's Disputed Attendance Sparks Tensions

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR) established today, on May 24th, the Regional Development Council of the UTAG Gagauzia region.

Serghei Anastasov, the mayor of Comrat city, was elected as the President of the Council, while Nicolai Posmac, the mayor of Vulcănești, was appointed as the Vice-President. Among those attending the meeting, chaired by Minister Andrei Spînu, was Bașcan Evghenia Guțul, associated with the fugitive oligarch Ilan Șor. However, the governor of Comrat departed after being denied entry to the meeting room.

Minister of Infrastructure, Andrei Spînu, announced the establishment and leadership of the newly formed Council on his Facebook page. He stated that over the past three years, more than 190 million lei have been allocated for regional and local development projects in the districts of Comrat, Vulcănești, and Ceadâr-Lunga through the government program "European Village".

"Andrei Spînu wrote, 'We will continue to support projects for the people of villages and towns in the region.'"

The Bașcan of Gagauzia, who allegedly attended the meeting uninvited, stated that she will contest today's decision approved by MIDR, claiming procedural irregularities.

"Teleradio-Moldova" reached out to the Government's spokesperson for a comment, but as of now, no response has been received to the request.
