Moldova, Lithuania Sign Deals to Bolster Cooperation
The Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Lithuania will solidify their collaborative efforts by signing two new agreements on Tuesday, May 28th, in Vilnius.
The agreements, approved by the Moldovan Cabinet of Ministers, pertain to technical and financial cooperation, as well as the exchange and mutual protection of classified information.
Boosting Economic Ties and EU Accession
The agreement on technical and financial cooperation aims to bolster economic ties between the two nations, enhance Moldova's energy independence, and prioritise institutional development in support of the country's European Union accession process. The implementation of this agreement will establish an infrastructure to support agriculture and rural development, foster cooperation in fire and rescue services, strengthen resilience against disinformation with a particular emphasis on independent media, and promote the use of renewable energy sources and increased energy efficiency.
Framework for Secure Information Exchange
The agreement on the exchange and protection of classified information establishes a vital legal framework for this area of cooperation. Both countries will undertake measures to safeguard classified information and ensure that all exchanged classified information receives the same level of confidentiality. The agreement also outlines provisions concerning the reproduction, translation, and destruction of classified information, security protocols for access, and procedures for handling security incidents. Moldova has similar agreements in place with other partner states, including Romania, Ukraine, Belarus, and Georgia.
