Moldovan Citizens Urged: Pre-register for Overseas Voting Rights
Moldovan citizens residing abroad are urged to register in advance to exercise their voting rights on October 20, the day of the presidential elections and referendum.
This requirement applies to Moldovan citizens living in the United States of America, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland who wish to vote by correspondence. The Central Electoral Commission has introduced the registration platform inregistrare.cec.md and encourages voters to register beforehand in large numbers to assist in determining the number of polling stations to be opened abroad.
Diaspora citizens intending to vote at a polling station must register in advance by providing their IDNP and date of birth, along with selecting the country, locality, and polling station.
"Pre-registration is essential for determining the number and location of polling stations," explained Ana Calinici, Secretary of State of the Government of the Republic of Moldova.
Regarding postal voting, pre-registration is mandatory and plays a significant role in identifying eligible voters. "These are two absolutely important exercises," added Calinici.
Citizens wishing to vote by correspondence will follow the same pre-registration steps, including providing their address and contact information. Subsequently, they will sign a declaration confirming the accuracy of the provided data. Ballots will be dispatched via diplomatic mail or regular postal services.
Moldovan citizens can register in advance until September 6.
For further details and information, Moldovan citizens living abroad can contact the consular missions of the Republic of Moldova or the Office for Relations with the Diaspora.
