Poland confirms that Ukraine can attack Russian territory with the weapons it supplies: "There are no restrictions"
Polish Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk confirmed on Wednesday that Ukraine is free to use weapons provided by Poland against Russian territory as it wishes. The official from Warsaw asked the other states that provide military aid to Kiev to do the same, writes Digi24.
"Ukraine has the right to fight and defend itself as it wants," the Polish official told a radio show amid controversy over Ukraine's possible use of Western weapons for attacks inside Russia.
"There are no restrictions on the use of the Polish weapons that we sent to Ukraine," insisted Deputy Minister Cezary Tomczyk, according to EFE.
He urged "Western countries to lift restrictions" on the issue, although he admitted it was a "complex" issue that could create "various problems".
We remind that, after the Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, asked the allies to authorize Ukraine to directly attack Russian territory with the weapons they provide as military aid, the debate on this subject is stirring Washington and European capitals. The most reluctant so far, especially Rome and Berlin, warn of the risk of escalation of the conflict in Ukraine, up to a hypothetical use of nuclear weapons by Russian President Vladimir Putin. In fact, the latter threatened Europe on Tuesday with "serious consequences" if NATO countries allow Ukraine to use Western weapons to attack targets on Russian territory.
For his part, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, assessed that the EU states must find a balance between the risk of escalation and the need for Ukraine to defend itself, while appreciating that the Ukrainian army should be able to strike Russian territory with Western weapons.
However, the United States, the main supplier of military aid to Ukraine, said through Pentagon spokesman John Kirby that Washington does not recommend that Kiev launch attacks on Russian territory with American weapons.
