Residents of Târnova and Bucovăț elect their mayors, in the second round of the new local elections
Residents of Târnova commune, Dondușeni district and those of Bucovăț city, Strășeni district, go to the polls again today, June 2, to elect their mayors. According to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), a total of 4,259 ballots were printed for this election, of which over 3,200 were in Romanian and a little over a thousand in Russian.
The CEC said that voting in the second round of local elections is carried out based on the same electoral lists used in the first round. Under legal provisions, the candidate for the position of mayor is considered elected if he received more than half of the validly cast votes of the voters who came to the polls.
The polling stations will close at 21:00.
We remind you that on Saturday, the "Chance" Party, affiliated to the fugitive oligarch Ilan Şor, was left without a candidate for the head of the Târnova City Hall, Dondușeni district. Ruslan Filipaș is suspected of corrupting voters. The information was confirmed for "Teleradio-Moldova" by the deputy chairperson of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), Pavel Postica. According to him, despite the elimination of a candidate from the race, the second round of the elections will take place, with only one candidate registered in the ballot.
According to the statements and evidence provided by the Police, the voters in Târnova were allegedly bribed with sums of 500 lei. Ruslan Filipaș denies the accusations and qualifies the electoral authority's decision as "illegal".
