Will the state of emergency be extended in the Republic of Moldova? Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița's answer

The state of emergency in the Republic of Moldova could be prolonged, as there are still risks to the energy security of the country, but also because of the war at the border. A statement to this effect was made by Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița in a show from Vocea Bessarabiei. The PM stressed that the authorities use this tool judiciously.

"I really want this state of emergency to expire (...). For the time being we continue to face risks in terms of war and these regular bombings. Anyway, we are in a difficult situation in terms of energy because the contract we have with Gazprom is not respected. We have about 56% more resources in December than the usual amount, so there continue to be risks that would require quick and urgent Government intervention. We use this tool judiciously, when needed", said Natalia Gavrilița. The prime minister also said that natural gas consumers on the right bank of the Nistru are supplied only from the state's strategic reserves, and the non-payment of gas by Tiraspol is a problem between Transnistria and Gazprom, noting that this debt cannot be on the shoulders of the citizens on the right side of the Nistru. The Prime Minister also referred to the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict. According to her, a possible victory of Ukraine would change the conditions of negotiations with the alleged authorities on the left of the Nistru. We remind you that since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the state of emergency in the Republic of Moldova has been extended until now. The last time, the Parliament voted a decision in this regard on October 7, last year, for a period of 60 days. The authorities have repeatedly stated that the need to extend the state of emergency is determined by the persistent risks and threats aimed at national security, as well as the supply of the Republic of Moldova with energy resources for the cold period of 2022-2023. During these months, during which the state of emergency was maintained, the Commission for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Moldova took decisions to avoid unfavorable consequences in various sectors of the economy, but also of the national climate in general.
