The importance of holding the European Community Summit in Chisinau

The European Community Summit that will be held on June 1 in Chisinau will emphasize the presence of the Republic of Moldova on the map of Europe - the executive director of the Institute for European Policies and Reforms, Iulian Groza, told our radio station. According to him, this discussion format will not directly refer to the European integration process of the Republic of Moldova, however, our country, as the host of the event, will be able to present its views on this segment.

The European leaders meeting in Chisinau will discuss joint efforts for peace, in the context of the war in Ukraine and related crises, the defense of democracy, the strengthening of energy security and the resilience of European states. But other current topics could be included on the agenda. In addition, some aspects of the European integration process of the Republic of Moldova could also be discussed, said the executive director of the Institute for European Policies and Reforms Iulian Groza. "This summit is not a format in which the process of integration of the Republic of Moldova into the European Union is necessarily discussed. It is an additional, complementary format. We are engaged in the accession process with the European Union, we are a candidate country, this is a separate process. But, the very fact that the Republic of Moldova will host this event will have the opportunity to promote our ideas, points of view, vision in this format as the host country". Iulian Groza also stated that the decision to host the second Summit of the Political Community in Chisinau was based on the EU Council's decision to grant the Republic of Moldova the status of a candidate country for EU accession, but also the fact that it is the most vulnerable country from the immediate vicinity of the unjust war launched by the Russian Federation in Ukraine. We remind you that an official invitation regarding the participation in the second Summit of the European Political Community was signed by the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, and the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, being sent to the 47 heads of state and government of the countries participants as well as other senior EU officials. We remind that the first meeting of the European Political Community, an initiative of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, took place in Prague in October 2022. After Chisinau, the next high-level meetings will take place in Spain and Great Britain.
