Invazia la scară largă a Rusiei a distrus cel puțin 210.000 de clădiri în Ucraina
A new analysis published on June 4 by The New York Times (NYT) reveals that at least 210,000 buildings in Ukraine have been destroyed since Russia launched its full-scale invasion, according to a report by The Kyiv Independent.
Satellite data analysis exposes the devastating impact of the war, with the destruction encompassing 106 hospitals, 109 houses of worship (including churches, temples, mosques, and monasteries), and 708 schools, colleges, and universities.
The NYT's interactive report describes the situation as "staggering," highlighting that the number of destroyed buildings in Ukraine surpasses what would occur if every building in Manhattan were levelled four times.
The report's authors emphasise that these figures are conservative estimates and do not include damage in Crimea and parts of western Ukraine.
In recent months, Russia has significantly intensified its attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, culminating in a massive missile barrage on June 1.
Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko confirmed that Russian forces attacked energy infrastructure in the Zaporizhzhya, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kirovohrad, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions.
Ukraine's state-owned energy operator, Ukrenergo, reported that two of its thermal power plants sustained significant damage during the attack. Additionally, two hydroelectric power plants and nearby infrastructure suffered critical damage.
Even before this latest attack, Ukraine had begun implementing rolling blackouts nationwide. The state-owned Ukrainian energy operator, Ukrenergo, attributed the power restrictions, initiated on May 15, to a rise in energy consumption following a temperature drop.
Ukrenergo's statement acknowledged the insufficient capacity of Ukrainian power plants, a direct consequence of the five missile and drone strikes launched by Russia against the Ukrainian energy system since March 22.
Ukrainian Energy Minister Halushchenko, speaking on May 5, estimated that Russia's attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure have inflicted over $1 billion in damages on the Ukrainian state.
