Travel Alert: Italy Imposes Temporary Border Checks

Italy implements border controls at land, sea, and air entry points starting today, Radio România Actualități reports.

The Italian Ministry of Interior announced these additional security measures in anticipation of the upcoming G7 summit, which will be held in Italy from June 13 to 15. This international summit brings together leaders from the world's leading economies.

The Schengen Agreement, which eliminates border controls between member states of the European Union, will be temporarily suspended at Italy's borders. The suspension will come into effect at 2:00 p.m. local time today and remain in place until the same time on June 18.

Italy currently holds the G7 presidency and will serve as host for the summit. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is among the world leaders expected to attend this year's event.
