Ukraine Claims Strike on Russia's Su-57 Jet
The Ukrainian Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) claims to have destroyed Russia's newest Su-57 multirole fighter jet.
According to the GUR, the incident occurred on Saturday, June 8th, at Akhtubinsk Airfield in the Astrakhan Region, some 589 kilometres from the front lines, as reported by the BBC.
The Main Directorate of Intelligence released satellite images showing aircraft stationed at Akhtubinsk Airfield on June 7th and 8th. The GUR notes that the images show the Su-57 appearing undamaged on June 7th, while on June 8th, explosion craters and burn marks indicative of fire damage became visible near it.
The Su-57 is the most advanced Russian fighter jet, capable of deploying Kh-59 and Kh-69 missiles for airstrikes, according to the Ukrainian intelligence services. It was developed to replace the Su-27 heavy fighter in the Russian air force.
The Russian military has not acknowledged any damage to the Su-57 and has not responded to the claims of the Ukrainian intelligence services.
