The Russian Ministry of Defense said today that Soledar was taken under the full control of Russian troops on the evening of January 12. The ministry said in a statement that full control of Soledar makes it possible to cut the supply routes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to Bakhmut and to casemate the remaining units of the Ukrainian army there. This is not the first such message from Russia. Earlier, the head of Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin, whose mercenaries are actively involved in the battles in this direction, claimed to have captured the city. The Ukrainian side continues to deny that Soledar is in Russian hands, but admits that there is an intense offensive by the Russian military. Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar said today that last night in Soledar was hot, and Russia threw almost all of its main forces in the direction of Donetsk. And the representative of the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Serhiy Cherevaty said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are still inside the city of Soledar. Western intelligence has not previously confirmed the capture of Soledar by Russian forces. The American Institute for the Study of War admits, in its latest briefing, that the information about the Russian takeover of the Ukrainian town of Soledar, with a population of around 10,000 inhabitants, could be true.
