EU continues to support the Republic of Moldova regarding Ukrainian refugees
The European Union (EU) will support the Republic of Moldova again this year regarding Ukrainian refugees. This was announced in Chisinau, during a workshop, announces the Delegation of the European Union in the Republic of Moldova.
"The plan of aid and action for the next period regarding the support of the Government in managing the flow of refugees and the aid for vulnerable groups of inhabitants in the country was discussed in Chisinau with relevant ministries, donors, UN agencies, NGOs, civil society organizations and EU services , as well as the European Commission. The European Union's aid will also be extended in 2024", reads the quoted source.
We remind that 118,000 Ukrainian refugees are in the Republic of Moldova, according to data from May 2024. Since the beginning of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, more than 1 million Ukrainians have taken refuge in the Republic of Moldova, most of them women and children. This indicator represents the highest number of refugees per capita in Europe, with the majority of refugees being hosted by ordinary people in their homes.
Since the start of the war, the European Union has appealed for a total of $841.2 million in financial support to cover the basic needs of refugees as well as host families or communities.
