National Integrity Authority Gains Expanded Powers: Legislative Proposals Under Review

The National Integrity Authority inspectors could be granted expanded authority, including the ability to initiate contravention procedures and impose fines, in cases where the declaration contains incomplete or erroneous information, including non-existent revenues.

This would be applicable in instances of improper declaration of assets or incomes exceeding twice the average salary in the economy. This proposal, developed by a group of PAS deputies, was approved during the session of the National Security, Defense, and Public Order Committee.

According to the draft legislation, integrity inspectors will have the authority to order the termination of mandates, employment, or service relationships, and to impose a ban on occupying certain positions, if a significant disparity is identified between legally obtained incomes, expenses, and acquired wealth.

Another proposed measure aims to double the proportion of wealth and personal interest checks completed within a calendar year targeting individuals holding public office. Specifically, the proportion will increase from 20 to 40 percent.

The document will be submitted for examination during the first reading in the plenary session of Parliament.
