Is Plahotniuc in Russia? Head of the IGP: "Operative information reached the force structures"

The General Police Inspectorate (IGP) neither confirms nor denies the information that the former democratic leader Vlad Plahotniuc is in the Russian Federation. The head of the IGP, Viorel Cernăuțeanu, stated in a show on Exclusiv TV, that "different operative information reached the force structures".

Asked if Plahotniuc took refuge in Russia, after being sanctioned by several states, including for the destabilization of the Republic of Moldova, the head of the IGP stated: "We do not deny or confirm this information, but different operational information reached address of the law enforcement agencies ".

Viorel Cernăuțeanu claims that, to date, there is no information according to which Plahotniuc has received or applied for Russian citizenship. Asked if the authorities have confirmed the rumors that the former democratic leader is a citizen of Turkey, the head of the IGP stated: "It is known that he has Turkish citizenship, but the information has not been officially confirmed."

We remind you that the former democratic leader Vladimir Plahotniuc fled the Republic of Moldova in the summer of 2019, together with the oligarch Ilan Șor, after the Democratic Party of Moldova ceded power. In December 2022, the British authorities introduced sanctions against Vlad Plahotniuc and Ilan Șor, accused in the " theft of the billion" case. Previously, the two were included on the United States sanctions list along with other persons and entities involved in systemic corruption and electoral processes in the Republic of Moldova in favor of Russia.
