135 years since the poet Mihai Eminescu passed away

Today, June 15, it turns 135 years since the passing away of the great national poet Mihai Eminescu. In Chisinau, several special events are held to pay tribute to the Luceafar of Romanian poetry.

According to the "Mihai Eminescu" Romanian Cultural Institute in Chisinau, the event begins with the laying of flowers at the bust of Mihai Eminescu in the "Ștefan cel Mare si Sfânt" Public Garden.

The commemoration ceremony will continue at the House of Writers, on 31 August 1989 str., with the laying of flowers at the poet's monument. This will be followed by evocations and a recital by the members of the Moldovan Writers' Union and the Chisinau Branch of USR, offering a moment of reflection on Eminescu's life and work.

In the House of Writers, Val Butnaru, Iulian Ciocan, Nicolae Negru, Maria Pilchin and Monica Babuc will participate in a literary debate moderated by Teo Chiriac, president of the Writers' Union of Moldova and of the Chisinau Branch of USR. The debate will explore the relevance and impact of Eminescu's publicism in the contemporary context, bringing into discussion essential aspects of his thought and writings.

The students of the Faculty of Theatrical Art, Choreography and Multimedia within the Academy of Music, Theater and Fine Arts will read fragments of Eminescu's publications, thus bringing the young voice of Romanian literature to the fore.

Born on January 15, 1850, in Botoșani, Mihai Eminescu left a work of indisputable value, recognized both in the Romanian space and on the entire European continent, his writings remain surprisingly relevant.

The Romanian poet Mihai Eminescu died on June 15, 1889, at the age of 39, in Bucharest. Eminescu is buried in the Bellu Cemetery in the capital of Romania.
