EPP Group in the European Parliament has a new chairman
Siegfried Mureșan was elected chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament, with 151 out of 170 valid votes cast. The MEP said that in the next mandate he will support the interests of Romanian farmers in the European Parliament and will support the accession process of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union.
*We obtained the support of the EPP Group for defending the interests of Romanian farmers and for supporting the European integration of the Republic of Moldova. In the next mandate, I will support the creation of a pro-European majority in the European Parliament, together with the other pro-European political families and under our leadership, the EPP Group, as the winners of the European elections. I will also support the Republic of Moldova in the process of joining the European Union. Last but not least, I will support all those measures that lead to guaranteeing security within the European Union", said Siegfried Mureșan.
The European Parliament elections took place between June 6-9. In all, 720 MEPs were elected. The poll is held every five years.
About 57,000 Romanian citizens from the Republic of Moldova participated in this year's European Parliament elections. The number of voters exceeded the participation rate in the second round of the presidential elections in Romania on November 24, 2019, when 52,285 Romanian citizens from the Republic of Moldova went to the polls.
