Moldova on Fast Track to EU: Negotiations Launched Today

Regarding the establishment of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) between the European Union and the Republic of Moldova:

Moldova's Path to EU Membership:

The Council's recent conclusions, adopted in December 2023, acknowledged the significant progress made by the Republic of Moldova in fulfilling the requirements of its candidate status, despite the challenges posed by Russia's war on Ukraine and the hybrid attacks targeting Moldova itself.

The Council adopts conclusions on enlargement and the stabilization and association process, evaluating the progress made by each candidate country and EU partner towards EU membership.

The General Affairs Council will convene today, June 25, to approve the negotiating framework at the ministerial level. Following the afternoon Conference on Ukraine, the conference to launch negotiations with the Republic of Moldova is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. At the Conference, Prime Minister Dorin Recean will present Moldova's negotiating position, confirming the country's acceptance of the negotiating framework proposed by the European Union.
