PHOTO Latvia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Baiba Braže backs the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Baiba Braže, reiterated Latvia's support for the accession of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine to the European Union during a recent meeting with journalists from our country. She emphasized that the Republic of Moldova has made significant progress in the European process. Also, the official shared the experience of the European integration of her country.
Baiba Braže stated that Latvia strongly supports the accession of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine to the European Union. The head of Latvian diplomacy emphasized that joining the EU will strengthen our country's security, especially in the context of current geopolitical challenges, such as Russia's illegal military presence in the Transnistrian region and its war of aggression against Ukraine.
"The Republic of Moldova has demonstrated remarkable progress and we believe that the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine will become member states of the European Union. Becoming part of the EU would represent a transformative investment in Moldova's overall security and social and economic resilience. However, the decision belongs to the Republic of Moldova, which must implement the necessary reforms and concrete measures", said Baiba Braže.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia emphasized that the process of integration into the European Union is complex and that long-term work is necessary in the key areas considered a priority by the countries of the EU bloc: ecology, digitalization and energy sustainability. The diplomat emphasized that this road is not easy at all, and our country will have a lot of work to do in several areas.
"Significant changes have taken place in the EU. There are three major transitions - green, digital and combating climate change - that will continue. Security will also continue to be a priority. And we are about to start the work of the new European Commission and the new institutions. Thus, there will be a new president and a new council," Baiba Braže emphasized.
We remind you that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Baiba Braže, met with a group of journalists from the Republic of Moldova, with whom she shared the experience of Latvia's integration into the European Union. The journalists were on a several-day study visit to Riga, organized by the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova. The purpose of the visit was to raise awareness of the process of integration into the EU, as well as to learn about the benefits of Latvia during its 20 years of membership in the EU bloc.
We remind that the European Union countries opened accession negotiations with Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova on Tuesday, June 25, with the organization of the first intergovernmental conferences with both states, in Luxembourg.
