U.S. Allocates $1.5B to Support Ukraine Amid Russian Attacks
The administration of American President Joe Biden will send another military aid package to Ukraine, which will include, among other things, Hawk guided missiles designed to intercept aerial threats and 155-millimetre calibre artillery ammunition.
The White House will announce this initiative to support Ukraine on July 1, according to DW.
The new aid package, totaling $150 million, will also include "other munitions and equipment for Ukraine's defence needs," according to two American officials. In this way, Washington responds to Ukraine's "desperate requests" for aerial defence support in response to the intensification of Russian attacks on the country's energy infrastructure, the agency specified.
The aid for Ukraine will be granted under the Presidential Drawdown Authority, which allows the allocation of military aid to foreign states and organisations in emergencies, without the approval of Congress.
The USA announces $1.5 billion in aid for Ukraine
American Vice President Kamala Harris announced on June 15 that over $1.5 billion will be allocated to support Ukraine. A third of this sum is designated for the country's energy sector, and $379 million for humanitarian aid for the urgent needs of internally displaced persons. Another $300 million will be provided by the U.S. Department of State in the form of assistance for Ukrainian civil security services, especially for border police and law enforcement agencies.
Since 2022, the USA has provided Ukraine with over $50 billion in military aid.
