“Thank you Viktor. Peace must come as soon as possible. Too many people died in a war that should never have started!” - wrote Trump on his social network Truth Social.
We remind that Hungary is considered one of the few, if not the only, EU country relatively close to Putin's Russia, after the launch of the invasion from Ukraine. Budapest tried to block or soften many of the international sanctions imposed on Russia for the war, but ultimately followed through on all sanctions.
Earlier, Donald Trump, the Republican Party's most likely candidate for the US presidency in the 2024 presidential election, has repeatedly said that if he wins, he will be able to reach a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine "within 24 hours" , even before taking office.
According to a Reuters report, the plan presented to Trump by his advisers to end Russia's war against Ukraine stipulates that Kiev will receive American weapons only if it enters into peace negotiations with Russia. Also, Washington should warn Moscow that if it refuses to negotiate, US support for Ukraine will be strengthened. Also, a ceasefire based on existing lines of contact is envisaged.
