Igor Grosu: Igor Gorgan, investigated for acts of treason, is in the Republic of Moldova
The former Chief of the General Staff of the National Army, Igor Gorgan, under criminal investigation for acts of treason, is in the Republic of Moldova, has hired a lawyer and goes to the Prosecutor's Office, said the Parliament Speaker, Igor Grosu, on Exclusiv TV.
"He is in Moldova (n.r. Igor Gorgan), he goes to the Prosecutor's Office, talks with the prosecutors, has a lawyer. The investigation is ongoing. Those changes we made to the Criminal Code regarding treason were made, including, to deter and to send a very clear message: those who do not know how long they have done such things against the state of the Republic of Moldova must know that their actions will be investigated", said Igor Grosu.
The prosecutor's office is examining the veracity of the information from the investigation of "The Insider" journalists, who wrote that the former chief of the General Staff, Igor Gorgan, was an informant for Russian military espionage.
We remind you that The Insider revealed the correspondence on Telegram between Gorgan and the colonel of the foreign military intelligence service of the Russian Federation (GRU), Alexei Makarov.
The GRU was particularly interested in weapons that Kiev was buying from neighboring countries, including the Republic of Moldova, according to the investigation.
This June, the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases opened a criminal case against the former head of the General Staff, Igor Gorgan, accused of spying for Russia.
Also, the Presidency condemned the "act of treason", and Maia Sandu withdrew Gorgan's state awards and military ranks. For his part, PAS deputy Andrian Cheptonar appealed to the military who would have cooperated with Gorgan and provided him with information, to surrender to the criminal investigation body.
