Ukraine starts emergency power cuts in seven regions amid record heatwave

Ukrainian power grid operator Ukrenergo has started emergency shutdowns of some consumers in seven regions amid a record heatwave and after the failure of power equipment, the company said on Tuesday, Reuters reports. This wa announced on July 16 by the Ukrenergo company.

Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukraine's energy sector have intensified since the spring, resulting in blackouts in many regions and forcing Kyiv to start large-scale electricity imports from the European Union.

The energy deficit in the system has increased, Ukrenergo announced onTelegram. The press release states that an emergency power cut has been ordered in the regions of Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, Zaporizhia, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovohrad.
