Moldova Invests Millions in University Upgrades
Moldova State University (USM) has seen significant infrastructure upgrades in recent years, with over €5 million invested in modernization efforts.
The government has further allocated €30 million for university infrastructure improvements next year, benefiting other institutions as well.
Over the past year, USM has equipped some classrooms with air conditioning and new furniture, according to Otilia Dandara, the pro-rector for teaching and student activities. These improvements aim to enhance the learning environment for students, who previously had to endure uncomfortable iron chairs.
Education Minister Dan Perciun announced that the World Bank-funded "Higher Education in Moldova" project will also renovate a dormitory on campus in the near future. USM is slated for dormitory renovations in 2025 as part of this project. This project includes the refurbishment of Dormitory No. 2 on Tighina Street.
"We believe we can provide high-quality education here in Moldova," Minister Perciun remarked. Roughly 70% of high school graduates choose Moldovan universities, but the rest study abroad. The Ministry's goal is to encourage more students to remain in Moldova by improving educational infrastructure and facilities.
