The customs officers detained by the CNA, in a corruption case in Leușeni, under house arrest for 30 days
The four customs officials detained yesterday by the officers of the National Anticorruption Center (CAN) for acts of corruption will be under house arrest for 30 days. The decision was taken by the magistrates of the Bălți Court, who partially accepted the prosecutors' approach.
According to CNA, the suspects allegedly demanded and received bribes from parcel and passenger carriers, in exchange for facilitating the border crossing.
In return for certain amounts of money, they avoided border crossing controls, but also the payment of due customs duties. The law enforcement officers carried out a total of eight raids at the work offices, cars and homes of the suspects.
Following the raids, money, the provenance of which is to be established, memory cards with information and other relevant evidence were seized.
The case is being investigated by the Balti Prosecutor's Office. The Customs Service condemned the corruption actions, declaring zero tolerance for such situations within the institution.
